Facing Grief Together Support Group
This support group is open to anyone affected by any type of cancer, bereavement, and/or grief. The supportive gathering is designed to provide participants with the tools and encouragement they need to lead happy and healthy lives, even while battling cancer, grief, and/or bereavement. This support group is also open to anyone providing care to someone battling cancer, and/or grieving process.
Open Arms Breast Cancer Support Group
Open Arms Breast Cancer Support Group is open to women living with breast cancer. The Open Arms support group started by founder Brooke Ismail’s cancer journey that began in the summer of 2013. After the completion of her surgeries, she realized that for herself and many others there was a void in the real-world patient-to-patient connection that other support programs did not fill.
Downeast Breast Cancer Support Group
The group’s mission is to help newly diagnosed breast cancer patients navigate through the process of healing and surviving. The Down East support group will now hold a support group for women newly diagnosed, in treatment, and women helping newly diagnosed breast cancer patients navigate through the process of healing and surviving.
Calais Breast Cancer Support Group
This support group is free and is open to all those living with breast cancer and survivors. This safe, supportive group is led by facilitator Marian Moore and meets in person at the Calais Methodist Church.
Facing Cancer Support Group
No one should have to face cancer alone. This support group is open to anyone affected by any type of cancer. The supportive gathering is designed to provide cancer patients with the tools and encouragement they need to lead happy and healthy lives, even while battling cancer.
Prostate Cancer Support Group
This monthly group is open to men diagnosed with prostate cancer that are seeking a community of support and understanding. The group also offers a great opportunity for men wanting to provide insight and mentorship for others. We annually have guest speakers on various topics.
Movement and Fitness
Yoga for Virtual Healing with David Walker
This free weekly yoga patients, survivors, and their caregivers. David leads a yoga practice to keep participants limber, relaxed, strong, and centered. The movements and postures are gentle, but participants are encouraged to go at their own pace.
Chair Yoga
Chair Yoga is a gentle practice utilizing a seated position while practicing poses and stretches to achieve all the benefits of a traditional yoga practice. The slow movements and postures improve strength, flexibility, and alignment. Susan also includes a mindful meditation, focusing on the breath to bring peace of mind and a sense of well-being. This “mind and body practice” that is an excellent way to ease into exercising for anyone of any ability or age.
Be in Motion
Be In Motion Events[/button] Gentle exercise classes can help cancer patients ease back into regular physical activity while undergoing cancer treatment and can also help in the recovery process. This gentle exercise class is designed for those who have had a cancer diagnosis, are currently in treatment, cancer survivors and their caregivers. The focus is on restoring range of motion, encouraging lymph drainage and muscle strengthening. All levels are welcome.
Medical clearance from a physician must be obtained before starting.
Gentle Yoga
Anyone can do gentle yoga! This class is designed for all ages and levels of ability. There will be some deep breathing and simple stretches to tone and energize the body and mind. Each class will start with a brief centering meditation and end with a deep resting pose. This is a great way to feel better all over! Find a deeper connection to inner peace and relaxation at a time when we need it most.
Tools for Well-Being
Drawing from the areas of Mindfulness, Stress Reduction, Brain Science, and Positive Psychology, in this monthly group we explore specific tools and practices we can use to deal with stress, adversity and illness so we can increase our well-being and flourish in life. Some topics we explore include reducing stress, nervous system regulation, increasing self-compassion and integrating mindfulness practices into everyday life. Each month you will learn new tools and get information on the science and research behind the practices.
Laughing Yoga
Laughing Yoga works with the breath while bringing a child-like playfulness into one’s life. We turn off the analytic brain and let the fun begin!
Alternative Therapies
Reflexology
Reflexology is based on the idea that stimulating specific points on the feet and hands can improve the functioning of corresponding organs, glands, and other parts of the body. Reflexology reduces stress, improves circulation, and encourages relaxation throughout the body. This hands-on modality uses a thumb and finger-walking technique to apply pressure on the reflex points of feet and hands. It is an ancient practice that has developed over thousands of years.
